About the College of Pharmacy Research Day

The College of Pharmacy Research Day is an annual forum to highlight research projects of final-year undergraduate and post graduate students.

The primary goals of the Research Day are to showcase the various types of research in the College of Pharmacy, share our mutual interests, and develop intra- and interdepartmental collaborations.

The conception of this Research Day was created in year 2007 with the aim of preparing Pharmacy students for presenting their studies at scientific conferences. Thereafter, this effort has continued in which it became mandatory for all final-year students in the College of Pharmacy to participate in this Research Day by presenting their work.

Research Day provides a great opportunity to learn about diverse research ideas being conducted within the College of Pharmacy.

Message from the Dean

To coordinate coursework with research is not an easy task. Yet, KSU Pharmacy students are dedicated to manage their time effectively and actively participate in research activities. In our PharmD curriculum, graduation research project is mandatory to final-year students. In this course, our students undergo structured and supervised training on multiple techniques relevant to their areas of interest, where they gain academic and critical skills along with lab and field experiences. Research quality is ever evolving during the years! This indicated the level of trust that our faculty members have in their trainees. Such a parameter reflects the mentorship skills of our staff as well as the professionalism level of our students. At the end of each academic year, students participate their research through poster and oral presentations in the Annual College of Pharmacy research Day, which is in its 11th versions today in 2022. And it is not uncommon to see some of the presented research accepted for presentation or winning awards at national, regional, or international conferences, or ending up published in peer-reviewed journal. The unambiguous collective and collaborative effort of students and faculties makes me thankful and proud to be part of this event!
Sincerely,

Aws Alshamsan, BPharm, RPh, PhD

Former Dean and Professor

Message from the Dean

Research is a necessity, not a luxury. The College of Pharmacy realized this more than a decade ago. Thus, the college implemented a research-based project in its curriculum, where students take a three-semester journey to conduct a research project before graduation. During the journey, they acquire a variety of research skills needed for them to execute their tasks successfully. This could not happen without the outstanding mentorship of our distinguished faculty members, whom the college and students are lucky to have. We are proud to see that outcomes of the research projects have been presented and won awards at respected national and international conferences, and published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals over the past years.

The College of Pharmacy Research Day (COPRD) marks its 11th anniversary this year. It has evolved from a small event held in the college hallway to one of the top research events at King Saud University over the years. The 11th COPRD will be held under the patronage of His Excellency, the President of the University, Professor Badran Alomar. This indicates the trust and support of His Excellency, and the highly professional level that the event has reached. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the COPRD organizing committee members, led by Dr. Maha Alrasheed, for their tremendous efforts in making this event an elegant product that the college is proud of.

I look forward to attending and enjoying the scientific program, through which I am sure we will have fruitful and enriched experiences.

Sincerely,

Homood As Sobeai, BPharm, Ph.D.,

Assistant Professor

Acting Dean / Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research,
College of Pharmacy, King Saud University

Message from the COPRD11 Chair

On behalf of the eleventh College of Pharmacy Research Day (COPRD11) Advisory Committee, it is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to our 11th COPRD Research Day.

After long and tiresome nights, a page has been turned by the grace of God, his success, and his care, and here we are to celebrate today, the eleventh anniversary of the COPRD.

COPRD11 focuses on the Pharmacy graduation research, postgraduate research, and other Pharmacy-related disciplines from KSU and other institutions, as well as a broad range of issues and challenges, weaving them through our creative students, the keynote speaker, special moderators, and potential judges.

We received 113 submissions, 18 of which were selected for regular oral presentation, and 95 for poster presentations.

With this exciting program, COPRD11 hopes to bring together a rich diversity of research ideas spearheaded by our talented and very competent faculty members and collaboratively share ideas and new perspectives with researchers from other institutions.

The popularity of COPRD as the premier forum for students has started to grow exponentially, and it aims to become a prominent forum where Pharmacy students, researchers, and practitioners openly exchange ideas and report progress in the exciting areas of Pharmaceutical sciences.

The credit for this distinction goes to the persistence of the existing team, the distinguished committees, the wonderful students, and the support of our distinguished college which was led by our former Dean, Professor Aws bin Ibrahim Al-Shamsan! Without his support, encouragement, and motivation, we would not have been able to excel and develop. We wish you success and excellence in your new appointment.

I would like to thank our Acting Dean, Dr. Homood Moqbel As Sobeai. We are grateful for your positive outlook and support.

I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all those that have dedicated their time, energy, and ideas to assist in organizing this event, including all the members of the Organizing Committee, moderators, judges, project supervisors, and our distinguished keynote speaker, Professor Ahmed S. BaHammam. It is through the concerted collective efforts of these individuals that we can bring you a great event today.

We hope that the day’s event will be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for all participants and attendees.
